Did you know that in 1888 the city of Lichfield was home to sixty-six public houses and eight beer houses? This was just one of the interesting facts given to us by Linzi Cooke in her talk on Prostitution in Victorian Lichfield at our November meeting.
We started December with our Christmas meal at the Royal Oak (for the first time) which was superb. At the end of the month, we will have our traditional Christmas walk followed by seasonal refreshments.
Our first meeting of the New Year will be at 8.00 pm on January 26th in the Village Hall when Anthony Poulton Smith will enlighten us on ‘The History of Place Names’:- all are welcome.
Gardening Guild
The Gardening Guild enjoyed an excellent Christmas dinner at the Boar’s Head, Sudbury last Monday. Thanks go to Steve Browne for arranging this very enjoyable and sociable event.
Next year’s programme begins with Danny Wells talking about Joseph Paxton on Monday January 15th. All meetings are held on the third Monday of the month in the village hall at 7.45 pm and everyone is welcome.
All Saints Church
The recently formed Kings Bromley Harmony choir will be giving their first public performance in the church on Saturday 9th December at 3.00 p.m. Their programme will consist of carols and a variety of songs both Christmas and non-festive. Cups of tea and mince pies will be served at the half time interval. There will be no entry charge but a collection will be divided between the choir and the church. Everyone is welcome to come along and support the choir.
