Gardening Guild

The speaker for the June meeting on a very warm evening was Byron Lewis from the Lichfield Garden Centre at Curborough. His topic was ‘Patio and Basket Plants’ and he had brought along a magnificent display of plants suitable for hanging baskets and containers. Byron talked about some of the familiar and more unfamiliar plants, giving tips on growing them on, feeding and deterring pests.

Familiar plants included geraniums and petunias, while more unusual ones included a plant to deter cats, the Lotus or Parrot’s Beak , Salvia Hot Lips and a hardy Nemesia. New introductions were one plug plants of Million Bells or Verbena which were in fact a number of different coloured plants of the variety in the plug which filled the basket. Members enjoyed making purchases afterwards and Byron reminded them that persons of a certain age would get a 10% discount in the garden centre on Tuesdays!

There will be no meeting in the Village Hall in July as members will be taking their own cars to the Dorothy Clive Garden on 15 July, meeting at 1.30pm.
