Parish Council invests in new Speed Indicator Devices on the A515.

Published 18 November 2024

In February 2024, following the tragic death of June Baker in a high speed hit and run accident in October 2023, a petition was raised and signed by over 92% of householders supporting the Parish Council’s appeal to Staffordshire County Council Highways to take measures to prevent any more deaths on our roads.

The petition called for the addition of Speed Indicator Devices (SID) and improved street lighting along the A515, which is notorious for vehicles traveling through the village at dangerously excessive speeds. The outcome was that the Parish Council decided to invest in SIDs and our Staffordshire County Councillor Richard Cox instigated a feasibility study into lighting and other safety measures along the A515 through our village.

The Parish Council is pleased to announce that we have installed two Speed Indicator Devices along the North and South entrances to the core 30 mph section of the A515 through our village.

These devices, which are permanently sited at the most optimum locations (as verified by Staffordshire County Council Highways), will accurately monitor and update approaching vehicle speeds for up to 200 metres, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, irrespective of the weather. Every vehicle driving in excess of the speed limit in either direction will be logged, both entering and exiting the village on the A515.

The SIDs do not to replace the fantastic work done by our Neighbourhood Speed Watch team but augment it, so that we have more statistically evidenced data to present to Staffordshire County Council in support of any request for additional speed reduction measures and enforcement.

The Parish Council will publish monthly statistical and graphical reports for villagers showing the data collected and a summary of its findings.

This is the first step that we will need to implement to make this section of the A515 safer for villagers.

We look forward to the County Council’s feasibility study and will keep you all posted of the outcome.

The Parish Council is committed to make this village as safe as it can within its scope of influence and funding.

Your support is essential and gratefully received.

Notice of road closure on Wood End Lane

Published 16 November 2024

Ahead of constructing the new HS2 structures, we are permanently realigning the junction between Wood End Lane and Netherstowe Lane in Curborough.  To complete these works, we need to install road closures on Wood End Lane and Netherstowe Lane so we can connect the new alignment to the existing roads. This includes diverting utilities and extending the footpath along Wood End Lane.

New Councillor co opted and thanks to Steve

Published 16 November 2024

At the parish council last Thursday evening Julie Bamber was duly elected to fill the vacancy left when Steve Browne stood down.

Steve had served the parish council for well over 30 years spending some of that time as chairman. He has worked tirelessly throughout the period serving the parish. One of his major involvements was with mitigating the expected impact that HS2 would have on the community. He spent endless hours in meetings with fellow parishioners and parishes and HS2 representatives. This included trips to London to present our case to the Select Committee. I’m sure you will join the rest of the council in thanking Steve for all his hard work,

Clerk
