Roadside Drainage

Published 20 October 2020

A number of residents have expressed concern about the large puddles that accumulate alongside the roads when it rains hard caused by blocked drains or drainage kerbs.

Several have been drenched by passing traffic.

Our Parish Council clerk has written to County Highways and Lichfield Highway Office asking for the drains/kerbs to be cleared and has received the following reply:

Good afternoon Ian,

I have been asked by Tim Heminsley to respond to your e-mail regarding the ongoing issues with the drainage kerbs in Kings Bromley.

We have recently compiled a spreadsheet for drainage issues, as we believe we will be given additional funds for problem areas. I have ensured that the drainage kerbs in the village are on the list. I have given the road a high priority, but at this time I am not in a position to say one hundred percent that the cleansing will be undertaken imminently.

I am aware that there has been no maintenance to the drainage kerbs for a number of years and there is a need for the full length of the drainage kerbing to be cleansed.

I do not have a date/time scale, but when I am in the position to provide any further information I will contact you with an update.

Remembrance Day

Published 17 October 2020

Glen Wright, on behalf of the Church, has sent us the following message:

T he Remembrance Day service will go ahead as planned at 10.45a.m. on November 8th. However, churches are not exempt from the rule of 6 so we will not be processing to the War Memorial afterwards. Also the British Legion advice is discouraging parades.
The wreath bearers will not proceed in at the start of the service but must go straight to a pew and keep the wreaths with them during the service.
Wreaths can then be laid at the War Memorial in their own time, socially distancing.
We have limited spaces in church now, because of social distancing, so we will be asking people who intend to come to notify me first to keep a check on numbers.

Also there will not be a service at 11.00 on November 11th as it would not be possible to keep to the rule of six, plus the school would not take part and we cannot sing a hymn. Obviously there is nothing to stop anyone individually visiting the War Memorial as long as they adhere to the guidelines.

Again the British Legion have advised that, whatever does or does not take place, all they ask is for everyone to try to observe the Two Minutes Silence wherever they are.

Plan for 57 new houses off Alrewas Road rejected.

Published 15 October 2020

Lichfield District Council have rejected planning application 19/01526/OUTM which proposed to build 57 houses to the north of the Alrewas Road. The reasons for the rejection can be found in the attached document, or on the LDC website.

Speedwatch Volunteers

Published 13 October 2020

We are starting Speedwatch monitoring again. The Parish Council has bought us a new speed gun, and we now consider it safe to stand socially distanced by the side of the road. We will be concentrating on the A515 to start with, as speeding appears to be more of a problem there.

We could do with more volunteers. Ideally you would need to be available during the day.

Warning after rise in catalytic converter thefts locally

Warning after rise in catalytic converter thefts locally

Lichfield District Safer Community Partnership is calling on people to stay vigilant as police officers look to fight a rise in catalytic converter thefts across the district.

The warning comes as intelligence shows many of these crimes take place in broad daylight and in full view of members of the public.

Thieves target catalytic converters as they contain small amounts of precious metals which increases their value, and the price of these metals has increased in recent years.

Mark Ward, Lichfield Police Chief Inspector, said: “It’s really easy for people to overlook these crimes because many don’t give it a second glance, innocently presuming the cars are either being repaired or having their tyres replaced.

“However, this isn’t always the case and that’s why it’s important for members of the public to stay alert. Offenders tend to travel in groups of three or four and are opportunists. Within minutes of targeting their vehicle, they will have stolen the catalytic converter and escaped.

“We need local people’s help in tackling this issue, and are asking for you to look out for this type of activity and record descriptions, noting down anything that could be useful to us. If it’s safe to do so, recording the incident on your phone is also extremely helpful.”

Councillor Ashely Yeates, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, added: “As well as keeping alert to anyone tampering with cars and reporting any suspicious behaviour, we are offering advice about how to protect your car as much as you can from this type of crime.

“We hope our warning will help local people to be more aware of catalytic converter theft so they can prevent their car from being targeted.”

Vehicles should be parked in highly visible, well-lit areas. Off-road parking areas or secure compounds with strong perimeter fencing, warning signs and security lighting should be used wherever possible.

A monitored surveillance system can also be an effective deterrent and crime prevention of this kind can save on costly repair bills and minimise disruption to businesses.

Marking a converter with a unique reference will help police identify the owner should it be stolen, so always make sure that property is marked.
